Spring Into Spring Beauty!

Looking for the perfect way to transition your look to spring fresh from winter warm? Here are several ideas for you to look as fresh as a spring tulip!

A pastel eye shadow "wash" over the eyes. No, you won't look like Mimi from the Drew Carey show if you do it right. This look can be really pretty when you use just a wash of the color and apply it lightly over the entire lid. Try a baby blue, lavender, light pink, or even a very light green. Start with a lid primer to keep color consistent (I like Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer). Brush the color over the entire lid, rather than blotting it in, with a light hand - this will give you an ethereal look. You can also line the bottom of the eyes with a thin brush. Skip the dark liner but make sure to plump up your lashes with a great black mascara.

Pink cheeks and lips - nothing says "It's spring and I've been skipping around in a field of wildfowers" like the color pink. Choose cool pinks like Nars blush in Angelica and Kevyn Aucoin lipstick in Ariabelle. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks (the circular part of your cheek that becomes round when you smile).

Braids - Braids are so sweet and innocent, but there's a way to do it where you don't look like a skipping school girl. For instance, french braid just the front section of your hair and wrap the end around a bun in the back. Or if you have long hair, start the braid at about ear height and braid the hair on one side of your head so that it falls in front of your shoulder.

All-over nude neutrals. This is the "I'm wearing makeup but it's really fresh and you almost can't tell" look. Start with foundation that's super hydrating and has a bit of a glow to it. I love Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer. Use a taupe or gold eye shadow just over the bottom half of your eye lid. Take brown or copper eye liner and follow the contour of your top and bottom lash line. Black mascara, of course. Instead of your typical blush, use bronzer to brush just below your cheekbones to enhance the contour of your face. Next, use a fabulous nude lipstick like Lipstick Queen's Pink Nude Sinner.
