I know, it's tax day, and you're probably stressed-out and deserve a little break. If you have an hour or less to spare, here are some ways that you can de-stress, feel totally luxuriously pampered, and not break the bank! I've devised some simple plans for taking some time out for yourself. What are you waiting for?
Get a facial - I know what you're thinking: but facials cost a fortune! Not if you go to a cosmetology school! I've had some of the best facials of my life at cosmetology schools. Typically, $25 or so will get you an hour-long facial with someone who is going to do their very best to impress because they're getting graded on it. I've found that cosmetology schools also use high-end skin care lines in their facials. Don't believe me? Call your local cosmetology school and get the details for yourself!
Get a pedicure - Most spa pedi's cost around $28 in my neck of the woods.. I believe that's the going rate. Pick your nail polish color, then sit back and let that massage chair take all the tension away. Choose a nail spa that has a good reputation for not only cleanliness, but also is known for giving lengthy calf and foot massages.
Chinese Foot Bath - Don't be fooled by the name. Most "Foot Bath" locations aren't just about soaking your feet. The massage therapist will do foot reflexology on you, massaging away the tension in your feet and calves. Many places also have the option to basically have a full-body massage (with clothes on), where they wrap you in warm towels and it's definitely a "womb-like" experience. I recommend going on a cold and rainy day. The prices are usually unbeatable, and you'll definitely walk out the door feeling brand-new!
Retail Therapy - When I'm stressed-out, or have the blah's, I find that just one new makeup item will brighten not only my lips or eyes, but my outlook as well. With the mind-set of, "I have $30 to spend, I'm only taking cash so I can't buy anything else", you can turn a good half-hour at the department store or Sephora into an enlightening experience. Ask a sales associate at your favorite makeup or skin-care counter if they wouldn't mind trying some products on you. I typically walk out of that store with: one new tube of lip gloss (or one of something), a barrage of samples to try when I get home, and feel totally relaxed from being beautified and pampered by an eager sales associate. Be sure to buy something, though, so that the eager sales associate will be rewarded for his/her time.
The Aveda Store - I've found that Aveda has excellent customer service. They train their employees on massage, aromatherapy, and stress relief, and I always walk out of that store feeling a lot better than when I walked in. Similar to the makeup counter, I always buy something while I'm there. But in return, they give me herbal tea, a good rub-down with some essential oils, and for some reason, the sales associates always have the most calming of demeanours. If I have about 20 minutes to spare by myself, I always try to stop by when I hit the mall.
Well, those are my favorite things to do when I have an hour and a little extra cash to spare. Come on... you know you deserve to give yourself a break! And be sure to comment on your favorite de-stress activity as well!
